Cottingly Fun Day

Cuttingly Fun DayThe news that we were going to 'have another breeze' spread quickly across the site.  Young people were asking staff 'how many days to go now?' for weeks before.  With money donated from Leeds City Council, the Area Committee and with great backing from our local ward Councillors organision got underway.  Many agencies were involved in the planning and we also organised for a big clean up day the day before.

Cottingly Fun DayEveryone got on board with the clean up day too and the young people were also inspired to continue with their gardening project at the entrance to B Site.  The Police gifted us some vouchers for the council nursery at Red Hall and the young people weeded and planted new flowers in the existing beds.

So finally the big day arrived, it was so apt that the day was planned for our late colleague Kathleen Morrison's birthday,  Kathleen was greatly involved in the last fun day at Cottingley 3 years ago and her spirit was with us all the way.

The Breeze team brought with them entertainment for all ages, even a few adults took part in the 'Pillow Wars' .  Also we had cage football and sumo wrestling.

There were stalls aimed at adults too, Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust brought along information about smoking, alcohol and diet. Women's Health Matters promoted their service alongside Leeds Inter-agency Project. Healthy Living Network sent us 4 Community Health Educators who supplied us with fresh fruit all day.

Loads of other stuff went on too including face painting and fun fair games, the best way to get a good feel of the day though is to have a look at this quick video.

Thanks to everyone who helped out including Leeds City Council, especially Traveller Services, our local ward Councillors, all the Breeze Team, the clean up team, Youth Services, Gypsy Roma Traveller Achievement Service, Healthy Living Network, Community Safety, the local Police, Leeds Community Healthcare NHS Trust, Women's Health Matters and everyone else who helped.
