Health Event in Bradford – Fun and Health go together

By Tove Vrbnakova |  July 21, 2016 |

Thursday just 2 weeks ago saw a second Health Event for Bradford Gypsies and Travellers. There was lot of fun to have and information about local health services to find out. Big thank you to all the community members and GATE staff who helped to organise the event and all the services who carved out time from their busy schedules to get to know and make links with Gypsies and Travellers in Bradford.

Unlike in Leeds there is no similar organisation to GATE in Bradford and we often see Gypsies and Travellers traveling long distance to access information and advocacy services from GATE in Leeds. Some of the community members expressed big thank you to everyone who came to the fair, as there is very little or no events of this kind for Travellers and Gypsies in Bradford.

I have always believed that working together, listening and cooperation are possible and fundamental part of how change happens, but it has been events like this which confirms my belief through seeing it happen – great success, creating new connections, getting to know each other – all possible with limited resources.

Thank you to Bradford & Airedale Mental Health Advocacy Group (BAMHAG), Education Service for New Communities and Travellers, Family Action Bradford, Health Visiting Service, Carers Resource, Champions Show the Way, Health Trainers, Stop Smoking, Oral Health Promoters, Specialist Midwifery Service, Trident Better Start Bradford,  Carers lead from BDCT and extra thanks to Olwyn from BDCT for doing health checks!
