Leeds GATE are an award winning community members organisation for Gypsies and Travellers based in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Our overall aim is to improve quality of life for Gypsies and Travellers through addressing inequalities in homes, health, education, employment, financial and social inclusion. We run a number of community facing and strategic projects to achieve our aims including advocacy, community development and youth work. This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing advocacy team to work specifically with Gypsy Traveller families to improve mental wellbeing and combat mental distress. 

Job Advert:  Advocate - Mental Health

Salary: Scale 5, point 22-25, £21,074 - £23,111 (annual increment based on annual appraisal)

Hours: 35 hours per week 

18 month initial contract with possible extension subject to further funding

Location:  Cross Green, Leeds, LS9 with travel appropriate to role

Leeds GATE are looking for a committed individual to contribute to our advocacy team. Our established, well used and highly regarded advocacy service works with Gypsies and Travellers across West Yorkshire to support equitable access, options and choice. We provide signposting and support and are often the primary service being accessed by our members. The post holder will take a holistic approach to providing high quality, accessible advocacy, information, signposting and support to Gypsy and Traveller individuals and families with a focus on promoting mental wellbeing, including working with those in mental distress. The post holder will have high regard to Leeds GATE Value statements including that Leeds GATE helps people to help themselves. 

Directed by the Advocacy Co-ordinator and working in partnership with other agencies in the field of mental health, the post holder will work to ensure increased accessibility to mental health support services, reflecting on and implementing best practice. The post holder will work within an agreed monitoring and evaluation framework
