We all need a revamp from time to time, to take a fresh look at how we do things, and to keep pace with changes in the world around us.  Our communications needs have changed and its time for us to 'up our game' to reflect the growth and development of the organisation.  For this reason we are seeking tenders for a communications partner to work with us for six months.  You can find all the details on the PDF below.  The deadline for submissions is 21st January with interviews to take place on the 30th January 2019.  For more information you can contact our Administration Operations Manager via sharon@leedsgate.co.uk  We look forward to hearing from you!

Leeds GATE are celebrating 15 years of our organisation this year and the Exec Board have written this statement to share with all our members, friends and supporters:

Leeds GATE are 15!

Fifteen years ago Gypsy and Irish Traveller people working with colleagues and friends from other communities came together to improve quality of life for Gypsies and Travellers in Leeds. Fifteen years later we are thriving as a community led organisation, delivering high quality services, community development and youth work with Gypsy and Traveller communities in Leeds. Last year we delivered 692 advocacy appointments worked with 125 young people and were instrumental in a new 9 pitch local authority site being built, see our annual report attached.

The ordinary by-passer might have no reason to be aware of the significant growth in 'wide injunction orders' being granted to local authorities, but it is a matter that anyone concerned with human rights should be aware of.  To breach such an injunction whether you were aware of it or not, by camping on land subject to such an order, can be punishable by a fine or even a prison sentence.  Below is a briefing from Chris Johnson of the Travellers Advice Team at Community Law Partnership and Marc Willers QC of Garden Court Chambers.  It makes grim reading.
