DON’T BE BEAT REPORT

What is Don’t Be Beat?
Don’t Be Beat was a project funded by the Rayne Foundation and delivered by Leeds GATE between 2018-2020. The project aimed to increase support networks available to Gypsies and Travellers in West Yorkshire experiencing mental distress and suicidal ideation.

The Don’t Be Beat project delivered a mental health advocacy service, provided SafeTalk and other training to communities, developed leadership and voice, embedded peer support and disseminated learning to other organisations and services locally.

The project explored what community led responses to high suicide rates look like and how professionals can learn from Gypsies and Travellers lived experience.

The report makes a number of community, service and policy facing recommendations and is a must read for anyone working with marginalised communities around mental health.
